Tire Handler Station

Accepts the incoming tire, centers it, applies a lubricant to the bead area, and transfers the tire to the test station.

Test Station

Provides all equipment required to check tires for force variation, including an automatic adjustable-width chuck having a rim width adjustment range of 127 mm (5 inch). Only one rim set is required for most bead diameters, so rim changing is minimized. The automatic rim width adjustment does not add to cycle time.

Basic measurements made by the Test Station include:

  • Radial force variation (RFV).
  • Radial harmonics 1 through 10
  • Lateral force variation (LFV).
  • Lateral harmonics 1 through 10
  • Lateral shift (LSFT)
  • Conicity (CONY)
  • Plysteer (PLY)

All force variation and harmonic measurements are available in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions. Tires are positioned at the proper marking angle in the test station prior to transfer to the Exit Station.

Exit/Mark Station

Accepts the tire from the Test Station, positions it radially for marking, and applies the high point or grade mark. (Markers are purchased separately.) This station includes a manually operated drop gate that offers access to the test station for rim changes, tire setups, and periodic maintenance.

Space is provided above and below station for mounting markers. Customers can add markers according to their requirements. The electrical cabinet on the exit/mark station includes spare I/O for controlling additional markers.

Machine Control System

A standard PLC control system with distributed I/O handles machine sequence control. A separate ladder logic file controls each modular section of the ASTEC machine.

The main enclosure includes the main power disconnect that provides a safety lockout.

A pendant-mounted touch screen with an easy-to-use icon-based display provides manual and automatic operation, setups and calibrations. Emergency stop buttons are located at several places on the machine. System status is monitored from the ASTEC's computer.

Truck Tire Uniformity Machine

FD90 Truck Tire Uniformity Machine

The FD90 assures tire quality by measuring, grading, and marking large over-the-road and off-road vehicle tires according to force variation, runout, and sidewall appearance. The machine measures tires with 16 in. to 25.5 in. bead diameters and load capacities to 5,670kg (12,500 lb). It features highspeed warm up, and an optional device to check sidewall appearance. An automatic adjustable-width chuck (AAWC) with a rim width adjustment range of 216 mm (8.5 in) is provided.

Machine measures the following tire properties:

  • Radial Force Variation (RFV)
  • Lateral Force Variation (LFV)
  • Conicity (CONY)
  • Plysteer (PLY)
  • Radial Runout (RRO)
  • Lateral Runout (LRO)
  • Sidewall Appearance (SAM) Optional

In addition, using the proper marker device the machine can mark the tire as follows:

  • Radial Force Angle
  • Tire Grade
  • Conicity/Polarity
